My Secret Life as a Priestess

**** Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (12/07)

In “My Secret Life as a Priestess,” Ronnie Gale Turbane shares with you her personal story of walking the path of enlightenment. On her journey, she has learned that “We are all merely threads woven into the ‘fabric of life.’” She feels that we continually return to earth until we finish our own individual personal quests. She also introduces us to Saint Barbara also known as Chango, the saint of lightening and thunder.

Turbane tells an incredible story about how Saint Barbara has been involved in her life. She offers a novena so that we can bring her into our own. Turbane’s life was forever changed when John, a young Cuban-American came to work for her. Even though she already had spiritual beliefs, John helped direct her on to her current path. Although incredibly fascinating, this path was not always easy. Turbane had some experiences with entities that were not looking out for her best interests. As a reader, I felt that this was a warning to make sure that we be very careful about what steps we choose to take as we walk our own paths. “My Secret Life as a Priestess” is a perfect book for those of us who are exploring our spiritual paths.

Turbane does a wonderful job of making you feel like she is writing her story just for you. I love that it felt like she was speaking to me, not at me. She has had a very interesting life and wants to share her story with you. She also wants you to find the same kind of peace that she has, so that you can live a life with faith and without fear. I have always had an interest in saints, and I found that Saint Barbara’s story was fascinating. This was a young woman who experienced miracles based upon her faith. I fully intend on completing this novena and keeping this saint in my life.

Turbane’s story is meant to be appreciated and learned from; do not miss out on this opportunity.

I think My Secret Life as a Priestess” is a great book to share with other women on your spiritual path. I think that there will be some interesting, faith building discussions coming from events that will start happening as a result of the prayer.

Ronnie Gale Turbane had spent much of her young life looking for answers. Who she was, why she was on Earth? As she grew into a young woman, she began a career and was successful at her job. However, she discovered that something was lacking. Maybe she needed to marry and have a family to be happy. It was not to be, so she began looking in a different direction for the meaning of life. Slowly, she started to accept her circumstances. In fact, she found some semblance of peace in the fact that she had her mother, father and sister near her, along with a rewarding business career. She was never lacking for dates with young men, yet she never found herself in a long-term relationship. As she continued to search, she began using the Ouija board regularly, hoping to find answers. They were always ambiguous and she remained unsatisfied. One day, a young man was hired at the firm she worked for and she took an instant liking to him. They developed a special friendship and he eventually began introducing her to the spiritual world he believed in. Turbane came to realize that was the world she had been searching for all her life. The more she explored the spiritual world, the more she understood what it meant for her life. Her discovery of the spiritual changed her into the person she always knew she was destined to be. She finally found the happiness she had been searching for. With that, Turbane launches into an amazing account of her life as a princess. She talks one-onone with the reader to relate the peacefulness she came to rely on through her journey into a realm few have been privy to. And she offers the reader that same comfort as she explains how he or she too can learn to accept a way of life that is serene and calm. Turbane does an excellent job of speaking to the reader. Her openness in relating her story is refreshing and enlightening. Whether or not the reader chooses to hold the same belief as Turbane, no one can doubt her sincerity. She is open and honest with her feelings and wants only to give the reader the same opportunities she had to find happiness. “My Secret Life As A Princess” is a book that is easy and fast to read. It moves right along, unlike many memoirs that tend to get bogged down in places. I’d recommend this book to anyone who has ever been curious about the spiritual life. Thank you, Ronnie Gale Turbane, for writing “My Secret Life As A Priestess.”

Knowledge is Power – The Beginning: Six Skills for Success

“The Beginning” is the first book in “The Knowledge is POWER” career-coaching series. The amount of information provided in this book, which covers less than one-hundred pages, would actually take place over nine sessions. It is divided into five sections. It has an introduction, then covers resumes, interviews, being a new hire and then discusses six skills with strategies for success.

What I really liked about this book is that it is beneficial for job seekers, employees and employees. Utilizing the information presented will help each group do a better job at their job. For the job seeker, gaining insight into the hiring process will give him an edge over others competing for the same job. If first impressions are everything, then it is really important to have a perfect resume to make a great first impression. It also teaches employers what to look for on a resume. The interview is also a critical part of the hiring process. Once again, information is included for both the potential employee and the employer. Teaching both the interviewee and the interviewer what to ask, what to answer, and what to look for, is critical for obtaining employment.

I also think it is beneficial to the employer because it tells them what they can and cannot ask. This could prevent legal issues. What really helped me about this chapter were the questions that the applicant should be asking. So many times in interviews, I have been asked if I had any questions. This is where my mind usually goes blank, because I don’t know what to ask. Now I know. Adjusting to a new job is tough for a new hire. The section on “New Hires” tells the new employee what is expected of him and how far he should be expected to progress. Successfully getting through the first year of employment can open up the door for the employee to have a successful lifelong career.

The icing on the cake is the section discussing “Six Skills for Strategies for Success.” This section explains six strategies for making yourself an excellent employee. While I think that everyone in the job market could benefit from “The Beginning,” school graduates and people returning from the workforce would benefit the most. I would have loved to have had access to this knowledge when I was just starting out. I am thrilled to be able to have access to it now!
